Research about social and economic changes in Qld gasfield communities released

1 June 2018

CCSG research has revealed the latest social and economic changes that have occurred in communities located within Queensland’s gasfields region.

University of Queensland Research Fellow Dr Katherine Witt, presented results for regional town communities during forums hosted by UQ and GasFields Commission Queensland in late May 2018.

Reports are available for the following town communities:

UQ research involved tracking data for social and economic indicators from sources including the ABS and ATO for towns based within the Surat Basin area since 2012. After analysing the long term trends for social and economic data between 2001 and 2017, researchers assessed the cumulative impacts of coal seam gas development. Changes reflected in the indicator data are verified and discussed with community members during ‘ground truthing’ interviews. An Annual Report summarising and outlining changes for Queensland's gasfield communities will be published in early July 2018.
