Beneficial use of salt

An alternative option for salt being researched in the lab

Beneficial use of salt

What are potential uses for the salt that is left over from coal seam water treatment?

Water that is produced from the coal seams as a result of the CSG extraction process is usually treated in Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants to remove salt and other contaminants. Queensland Government policy requires that companies explore options for the development of usable/saleable products from the treatment brine or salt residue from the RO process.

This exploratory project involved laboratory testing combinations of salt or brine with other substances that can produce usable solid products.

This was a project evaluating third party technology. The results are commercial and in confidence.
